Fontainebleau Forever

Night Pictures

An ongoing photo project capturing the anthropomorphic sandstone boulders in the forest of Fontainebleau, France. The images are shot on medium-format analogue film in the twilight moments after sunset. At times, the transparent, ghost-like presence of a climber appears, scaling the boulders.

Fontainebleau is also an important archaeological site, holding thousands of Mesolithic and some Paleolithic petroglyphs carved into and hidden beneath the sandstone formations. This project seeks to attune to these ancient traces, capturing the resonance of their atmosphere in the contemporary landscape.
