Sightlines – Soloshow in Oslo!

Galleri Semmingsen

13th of February – 6th of March

Sightlines explores the connection between body, landscape, and time through a tactile and intuitive visual language. The works reach deep into geological layers and far back in time – and perhaps forward as well. They exist in the liminal space between the prehistoric and the immediate, the raw and the sophisticated. Like traces in stone or the echo of a movement, the paintings and drawings give form to an early language – older than the spoken and written word, yet still recognizable in the body’s memory.

The exhibition consists of four series: Sightlines, lacquer, pastel, and magnesium on canvas; Haptic Drawings, lacquer, pastel, and magnesium on paper; Phantom, acrylic lacquer on aluminum; and Eclipse, acrylic lacquer on paper.

Geir Harald Samuelsen grew up in Hurum, outside Oslo, and lives and works in Oslo and Bergen. He has exhibited in international galleries and museums such as Museum Amos Rex in Helsinki, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, and Trondheim Kunstmuseum. He has received various awards and project grants, including NARP (Norwegian Artistic Research Program) funding for the project Matter, Gesture and Soul in 2019.

Samuelsen is an Associate Professor of Visual Art and a researcher at the Art Academy, Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen, Norway. He holds an artistic PhD from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, NTNU.
