THE ASHOKA SUITE

Lacquer on Lead, six panels, 420 × 120 cm, 2006

The Ashoka Suite was commissioned as a site-specific installation for a private cabin at Hvasser. The lacquer surfaces shift with the changing light, creating a dialogue between materiality, gesture, and the surrounding architecture.

About the title

The work is named after Ashoka, the Indian emperor (3rd century BCE) who, after a period of conquest, embraced Buddhism and became known for his commitment to non-violence and peace. The title reflects the owner’s interest in philosophy and peace work, adding a layer of historical and ethical resonance to the installation.

Commisioned work at Lindholm estate, Hvasser.
